Living in a German world means I spend a lot of time translating text. Sometimes I can do it as I read along, other times I put that text into Google translate to give me a quick hint. And these days a lot of stuff is automatically translated, especially online. Sometimes the translations make sense. Other times… you get results like the ones below.
Squirrel goulash
This is the first one I remember collecting, and it still makes me laugh. I found it during the first few weeks of starting my job here in Austria, trying to translate the lunch menu.
And no, in case you’re wondering, Austrians do not generally eat squirrel!
Covid calls for nose picking!
I used Google translate a lot during Covid times to read large blocks of government issued text. And I always enjoyed how doing a Covid test translated to nose picking.
Part-time toddler
Yes please! I also would love a job as a toddler. Demanding food, melting down if I don’t get what I want, taking naps, and eating with my fingers… I’m in!
Fasching
Oh, I hope not… I really hope not.
Menu mayhem
I mean, Moussaka I get… but I’m not really interested in trying item two.
