What an awful year of summer sickness

sick in bed

We dove into winter #2 with Sam at daycare knowing what we were in for, but hoping it wouldn’t be as bad as year #1. Now, apart from the bout of tonsillitis and RSV, we did ok. There were sniffles and coughs and the occasional one-off vomit but it could have been a lot worse.

I headed off to Australia and hubby had his time in India… and then it was April – the weather was warming up and we thought the worst was over.

But apparently it was not.

Since then, we’ve been battling. Mostly hubby, who also had a stint in hospital for a mystery virus. Just when one of us recovered, the next one would get sick. And so on, and so on. Luckily, we escaped this term’s edition of Hand, Foot & Mouth, which I think would have destroyed us, but just last week I got to enjoy a touch of food poisoning from the work canteen. Joy!

As a result, it’s been hard to organise anything. We cancelled our trip to Italy, weekends away, catch up with friends, and it’s even been a while since the two of us sat on the couch together after Sam went to bed because we’re just so exhausted and have so much to catch up on.

But… I’m hoping it’s over now. Summer is well underway, so finally we enjoyed a BBQ outside for my birthday, and there are still plenty of swim days left. It’s time to get down to some planning so we can tick off a few weekends away and dinners out. Because I’ve been out of touch, and I apologise to all the people I haven’t managed to call or catch up with lately. But I’m ok. And surely we’re coming onto better times.

Well… at least until September hits and Sam starts at kindergarten with a whole new bunch of kids, and a whole new season of illnesses.
